LSI currently is seeking a Full time, State wide, Bilingual Caseworker for our Community Programs.

DUTIES

Responsible for providing supportive services to unaccompanied minors (youth ages 6-17) and their identified sponsors including, but not limited to enrolling the minor in school, identifying legal representation for the minor's immigration hearing, identifying community resources for the sponsor which would include finding medical services that accepts a sliding fee or that are free, mental health services that would accept a sliding fee or free as well as finding local food pantry's and clothing closets.  Position will include documentation including developing reports, weekly check in calls with the sponsor and minor and maintaining case files.  Position will also be responsible for conducting initial home studies once a sponsor is identified and they meet the criteria of sponsorship through the Office of Refugee and Resettlement.  These home studies include interviewing the minor, interview the sponsor, conducting a home visit to the home, checking the safety of the home, neighborhood and sponsor, educating the sponsor on any prior concerns that they may not be aware of regarding the minor and making a recommendation to the Office of Refugee and Resettlement.  Both supportive services and home study services are time sensitive and have mandated time lines in which they need to be completed.

All initial meetings with the sponsor will be in their home.  Work will occur during normal business hours unless the family is not available during those hours which then could occur after hours or weekends.  Ability to travel to meet the sponsor and minors is required.  This service will cover the entire State of Iowa and some parts of Nebraska.  

 QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor's in social work or related human service field and one year of related experience. Acceptable degrees include: psychology, sociology, human services/development, and child development.

This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
