If you have a passion for making a positive change in your community, Lutheran Services in Iowa is looking for you. LSI is seeking a dedicated, compassionate full-time Family Navigator and Support Specialist in the Waterloo area. The person in this role has a lived experience and is dedicated to connecting quality services and empowering the children and families we serve toward optimal success.
Our Family Navigator and Support Specialist will assist the parent in maneuvering through the multiple service delivery systems of a child's life, including the educational system, mental health system, the Juvenile Court System, and medical care system. In addition, the Family Navigator and Support Specialist will be responsible for:
- Providing support and encouraging families parenting or caring for a child with a serious emotional disorder
- Directing families to community resources and supports to meet their specific needs
- As part of a team (along with our Behavioral Health Care Coordinator & RN), providing care coordination services to children and families
The person in this role must be able to meet and work with clients in various settings including the home, community, schools, and other locations indicated by the family. Occasional transportation for clients may be required. It is critical for our Family Navigator and Support Specialist to engage with our families, making sure they have the support system and confidence they need to thrive. This role's service area is approximately a 70-mile radius from Waterloo.

Candidates for this role must have the following:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in being a primary caregiver to a child with a serious emotional disorder
- Successful completion of a post-employment Peer Support Training Course
- Competency in computer basics and documentation skills
A working knowledge of medical providers and resources in the coverage area is strongly preferred. Bilingual (English-Spanish) is preferred but not required.
This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record, and the ability to pass an extensive background check, including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, the Sex Offender registry, and the criminal history check.
