Total Compensation Package

LSI seeks a full time Food Service Associate in Ames, Iowa. The work schedule for this position will be 9am-5pm M-F.


In this role, you can look forward to performing kitchen duties ranging from food prep and clean-up to record-keeping and customer service. This position requires staff to maintain high standards of personal hygiene, sanitation, housekeeping, safety, and operation and care of equipment. Prepares and cooks nutritious and appetizing meals under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor and cleans up afterwards.  Reads and follows directions, recipes, instructions, etc.  Records activities as required.


  • Nutritious and pleasing meals are prepared according to directions. 
  • Meals are served at proper temperature.
  • Meals are attractive to sight and tasty to palates.
  • Dining environment is clean, safe, and organized at all times. 
  • Crisis situations are resolved in a safe, consistent, and fair manner, ( e.g. food fights, misuse of utensils, etc.) with assistance sought from appropriate personnel (youth specialist or program supervisor).
  • Requests from Communities are handled in a prompt, customer-focused manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze problems and problem solve to a positive conclusion.
  • Positive relationships are established and maintained with all children, families, and staff.
  • Possesses ability to perform special projects or other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to complete contractual obligations in a timely manner


Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior food service experience is preferred. Applicants must also have the ability to read, interpret and follow instructions for recipes and proper food handling and to operate kitchen equipment safely and according to directions. Additionally, Food Service Associates must have a demonstrated ability to serve and care for people in need.

This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
