LSI has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Payroll & Benefits Specialist in Des Moines.


The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting the Payroll Coordinator with maintaining the agency's data base for H.R., payroll functions and benefit administration; creates and maintains the payroll and benefit records for all employees. This includes the electronic files in the HRIS and payroll system and the employee files maintained in the Payroll/Benefit office. Responsible in the absence of the Payroll Coordinator for all tasks related to producing the biweekly and monthly payroll processing which includes processing electronic timesheets and the transmittal of data to our outside payroll vendor.

Serves as direct support to the Benefit/Wellness Coordinator in creating and maintaining benefit records for all employees including updating electronic records and employee files. Communicating information as needed with our benefit vendors and 3rd party administrators. Reconciles the billings from the benefit vendors and communicates discrepancies to the third party administrators and Benefit/Wellness Coordinator. Maintains records for employees on any type of a leave of absence. Processes all COBRA transactions including terminating benefits, and receiving and processing payments.

Must be knowledgeable in the application and interpretation of LSI policies and procedures as they apply to personnel transactions, payroll and benefits.

Serves as a resource to employees and leadership in the use of the HRIS/payroll systems.

In the absence of the Payroll and Benefit/Wellness Coordinator serves as a resource to answer questions from internal and external customers relating to payroll and benefits.

Works effectively in a team environment, has above average written and oral communications skills and has advanced skills in using Excel spreadsheets.


High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical or administrative support experience.

Preferred applicants will possess a High school or equivalency diploma and have previous experience in human resources, benefits, or payoll.

Additionally, experience with HRIS computer systems or personnel and/or payroll operational procedures are desired. Must have proficient PC skills, strong Excel skills are needed, as well as, strong written and oral communication skills. A combination of education, training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the job may be considered.

Acceptable driving record, valid driver's license and vehicle insurance to meet agency requirements. Ability to pass extensive background checks.
